Two Adaptive Space - Time Block Coded MIMO Systems Exploiting Partial Channel Knowledge at the Transmitter

چکیده
In this contribution two new closed loop transmission schemes over wireless MIMO channels with only partial channel knowledge at the transmitter are presented. Utilizing Space Time Block Codes (STBCs) with additional preand post signal processing provides nT independent virtual channels, where nT is the number of transmit antennas. In most cases we consider nT = 4. The first scheme is based on the Extended Alamouti (EA) code, transmitting R=1 information symbol per channel use. This scheme requires only a very low feedback rate. The second scheme achieves a higher rate of R=2 information symbols per channel use, but it needs more feedback information. This high rate data transmission is achieved by utilizing the Double Space Time Transmit Diversity (D-STTD) code. The modulation format (from 2PSK to 256QAM) used on the resulting nT independent virtual channels is adapted to the individual quality of the virtual channels. For a given target Bit Error Ratio (BER) and a fixed mean transmit power an adaptive algorithm maximizes the data throughput. With these two closed loop schemes very high data rates at reasonably low values of SNR are achieved. Simulation results show that the first scheme is very robust against spatial correlation with respect to the mean information bit rate.

Biljana Badic et al. 443 Since the publication of Alamouti’s famous space-time block code, various quasi-orthogonal space-time block codes (QSTBC) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) fading channels for more than two transmit antennas have been proposed. It has been shown that these codes cannot achieve full diversity at full rate. In this paper, we present a simple feedback scheme for rich sca...
متن کاملSpatial precoder design for space-time coded MIMO systems: based on fixed parameters of MIMO channels
In realistic channel environments the performance of space–time coded multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) systems is significantly reduced due to non-ideal antenna placement and non-isotropic scattering. In this paper, by exploiting the spatial dimension of a MIMO channel we introduce the novel idea of linear spatial precoding (or power-loading) based on fixed and known parameters of MIMO cha...

In this paper, a cooperative algorithm to improve the orthogonal space-timefrequency block codes (OSTFBC) in frequency selective channels for 2*1, 2*2, 4*1, 4*2 MIMO-OFDM systems, is presented. The algorithm of three node, a source node, a relay node and a destination node is formed, and is implemented in two stages. During the first stage, the destination and the relay antennas receive the sym...
متن کاملAdaptive Channel Estimation in Space-Time Coded MIMO Systems
Space-time codes are an effective and practical way to exploit the benefits of spatial diversity in multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) systems. As the name suggests, the coding of space-time codes is performed in both the spatial and the temporal domains, introducing correlation between signals transmitted by different antennas at different time instants. At the receiver, this space-time co...
متن کاملOn the effect of channel knowledge imperfections at the transmitter on the capacity of MIMO systems
For a transmitter that has a perfect knowledge of the MIMO channel, the maximum achievable capacity corresponds to the waterfilling solution. In practice, the available knowledge may only be partial due to the time selectivity of the channel, and delay or absence of the feedback from the receiver. However, exploiting the partial knowledge leads to a significant improvement when compared to the ...
